A Review of This Year’s RoundUp’s

The ski season for us here in Jackson is also known as RoundUp season. Jim, Natalie, and Whitney spent the first two weeks of the new year on the road visiting alumni, current families and potential families all along the East Coast and Midwest.

We’re back in the valley for a week or so break before we head out to Tucson, San Fransisco, Austin and the greater Houston area. RoundUp’s are a long-standing tradition at TVRC and this year we were fortunate enough to be hosted in Columbus in the same home the camp directors of TVRC in the 1970’s gave a RoundUp presentation!

These RoundUp’s offer a unique opportunity for us as a Leadership Team to visit you in your hometown, reconnect with alumni and of course welcome in the new generation of Yearling’s and Rough Riders who want to have the TVRC experience.

Many, especially those interested in attending or hosting a RoundUp, want to know what they’re like. We wanted to share a bit about them right here and if you’re interested in hosting a future RoundUp please reach out!

Our RoundUp’s generally last an hour to an hour and a half, depending on mingling time and how many questions we may have at the end of the presentation. We give a short 20-minute presentation detailing the TVRC in-camp and backcountry experience. This includes the make-up of daily life on the ranch, the type of programming we offer in-camp and of course details on our extensive backcountry trips program. All of our programming, in-camp, and backcountry, has been a part of the TVRC experience for over 80 years. Many of the trips we run today were ran back in the early years of TVRC operating from the Kelly Ranch.

We also share a bit about the camp’s history and our status as a non-profit organization.

The four-minute video that we share during the presentation offers a great look at what life in the camp and on the trail is like. With footage of our daily activities, amazing views along the trail, fun at the Sunday Rodeo’s and glimpses into our ceremonies that all campers participate in at the end of the season.

We are sure to save time at the beginning and end of the event for sharing stories, reflections from alumni and current camp families and time to get to know one another. One of our favorite things to do is have alumni and current camper share their stories and unique perspective on the TVRC experience. Without fail we hear inspiring stories of how camp changed the lives of so many and made a lasting impact on the families who shared their children with us each summer.

If you’re interested in attending one of our Upcoming RoundUp’s be sure to take a look at the Event Calendar and keep an eye out on our Facebook page for the announcement of upcoming RoundUp’s in 2020 and beyond.

If you’re interested in hosting a RoundUp please reach out to Whitney at woppenhuizen@tvrcamp.org. We’re looking to hold a handful this coming Fall as we’ve received many requests from camp families to hit the road a bit earlier as families are starting to plan summer activities earlier in their year.

We look forward to seeing you on the trail or on the ranch in the coming summers!
